A scammer is using Rodrick’s name to try and get people to buy Amazon Gift Cards. They are mentioning the Board to make it seem real, and they mimic the tone of Rodrick’s writing very well.
We can’t assume they are only using Rodrick’s name for this, though, so do not trust emails seeming to come from any Board member that ask you to do something unusual. Don’t give away any personal information, check the email address it was sent from to see if it matches what you think it should be, and verify with that person that is was or wasn’t them.
Hello CVDA Members, Happy New Year! 2020 was quite a year which I don’t think anyone could have imagined. It was a very challenging year impacting all aspect of our lives globally. The CVDA was not spared and due to statewide mandates we had to suspend all league activities which halted the Winter 2020 league before the start of the 10th Week, cancellation of our 2020 42nd Annual Dart Classic, the Summer and Fall 2020 league seasons. The Board of Directors met a couple of weeks ago and here is an update. If You have any constructive feedback, suggestions or comments please send to bod@cvdadarts.com. This is the official way to reach and how we will respond to your inquiries. We will not be responding to any facebook comments.
1.
Due to the current Governor Executive Order and restrictions, the
fluctuating COVID-19 protocols, and new variant strand of the virus, We
are unable to start the 2021 season. As soon as we have clear guidance
from the Governor we will update the membership.
2. All sanctioned Blind Draws and League activities remain closed.
3. Due to uncertainty of statewide restrictions and the inability to fund raise, the Annual 42nd Dart Classic in June 2021 is cancelled. The Board has not completely taken it off the table and should restrictions be lifted we might explore moving the Dart Classic to possibly a later month in the year.
4. The decision was made to freeze and roll the following items into 2021 a. 2020 CVDA Points List b. The few months of sanctioning dollars- Once the books are closed out for 2020, the President will have the Treasurer send out a report to the membership. c. Possibility of finishing out week 10 of the 2020 Winter season. (Subject to change once things open back up)
5. Due to the challenges of 2020 the board has rolled over all paid membership from 2020 into 2021 membership.
The CVDA Board of Directors has reviewed the by-laws and verified that the $45 paid to the CVDA annual is for membership dues. The membership dues allow a member to play on a league team, vote at CVDA elections, as well as participate in some CVDA member only functions. These dues are paid on an annual basis each January. As a courtesy, if someone would like to join later in the calendar year the dues are prorated for the remainder of the year ($30 or $15 depending on which league season is being played). The membership dues are non-refundable. If you join in January and only played one season, the remainder of your dues are not refunded to you though you are still considered a member with member benefits.
The Board of Directors has approved extending member’s 2020 memberships into 2021. This extension was not required but put in place as a show of good faith to our members. Anyone having already paid their 2020 membership dues for the entire year ($45), will be allowed to participate in all CVDA functions for all of 2021 once able to resume normal organizational activities.
There have been several questions from the membership about refunds. Refunds are not a viable option for the league. As an example, you paid your membership dues to another organization for 2020. Due to the pandemic the organization did not have any functions or events for you to participate in or were closed partially during the year. Your dues to that organization are not being refunded. The same principal applies in this situation. As another example, a Busch Gardens membership, the theme park continued to collect payments on the memberships during the time the park was closed. The park notified membership owners that their payments would be deferred for the time the park was closed once the park re-opens. Essentially, this is the same thing CVDA is doing, extending your membership for the time the league was shut down.
The CVDA Board of Directors is making the best decisions for the entire league, this includes its members, member’s families and league sponsors. The league’s safety and health are the utmost priority. The CVDA Board of Directors will continue to comply with the guidelines set forth by the state of Virginia.
As soon as sanctioned darts are allowed, the Board of Directors will review the calendar and determine the best course of action to complete. If you have any questions, please contact the Board of Directors via email at: bod@cvdadarts.com. Formal complaint must be in writing and mailed to the P.O. Box for proper adjudication.
6. All is not lost for those that want to throw darts. If anyone has interest in playing virtual dart league or tournaments, I.E. Singles leagues or tournament via Dart Connect. Please email your thoughts or interest and suggestions to bod@cvdadarts.com.
Thank you for your time, understanding and patience during this difficult time. The Board of Directors wishes you and your families all the best.
On Dec 22 2020 the CVDA lost one of our “Great Ones” Brother, Friend, and Lifetime CVDA Member Robert “The Bertman” Beattie. A kind and gentle soul. He was a pioneer in the CVDA getting his start at the Other Side Lounge and moving on to starting the first Blind Draw at Mike’s Restaurant. In the early 90s, Robert along with Amber Cole and Billy Aultman established the March Madness and Summer Bash weekend tournaments at Mike’s which have endured for over two decades.
Involved with the CVDA for over forty plus years, Robert served as CVDA Secretary and was a regular contributor of articles to the Southern Darts Newsletter under the column “Dartin With Da Bertman” He always signed off as Robert “The Bertman” Beattie.
He possessed a vast knowledge about darts and how to run tournaments. Always willing to share his knowledge and you almost always saw him lending a hand assisting Amber with the CrossFlights Spring Fling and Turkey Shoot weekend tournaments.
He Captained the awesome team “Shoot to Thrill”. Having played them on several occasions it was apparent he was the right man for the job. From the great strategy of his bench line up to just being a professional with a pleasing demeanor. Win, Draw, or Loss, Robert, and his teammates were always the consummate gentlemen exhibiting good sportsmanship and camaraderie. An example of his Team’s commitment, dedication, and Love for their Captain is evident in the attached photo. Robert couldn’t be at the 2018 Fall Finals due to being in the hospital…”Shoot To Thrill” won the Silver Division Finals and went to the hospital immediately after to celebrate with their Beloved Captain. A testament to how special Robert Beattie was.
A very close friend commented, “In my 30 plus year in darts I never saw or met an individual more committed and hardworking to improve their darting ability like Robert”. Long-time friend and talented shooter and prior member of the CVDA Hap Fisher stated: ” Robert was the only Team Captain that I would come back into darts and shoot on his team.” Hap did come back to the CVDA joining Robert’s Team, and they won the League Championship. Patrick’s his Home Bar will never be the same. Robert will definitely be missed.
Please Keep his brother John and the rest of the Beattie family in your prayers and thoughts. To the Beattie Family, please accept our condolences and prayers for strength, support, love, and peace during this time of bereavement.
Please share your fun stories/experiences about Robert Beattie, say his name, and keep his memory alive. With deepest sympathies,
On behalf of the CVDA CVDA Board of Directors
John Beattie wanted to let everyone know you are all welcome to attend Robert’s graveside service which will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, Jan-16-2021 at Sunset Memorial Park.
By request of the family and in accordance with current executive orders, a mask is required for attendance. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions are made to the National Kidney Foundation, Kidney.org.
Good Afternoon All CVDA Members, Sponsors, and Tournament Directors. Apology for not getting this update out sooner. The President was waiting to get some answers from the state and other personnel plus dealing with a few personal issues. CVDA Board met on 7/29/2020 via Conference call with one board member not in attendance. Below are the key highlights from the meeting/call:
What do we do about incomplete Winter season and the remainder of the 2020 League season? The Board felt at this time our hands were tied and until the state lift the restrictions we could not make a decision until the end of Aug. If no update by the governor then sadly we will have to cancel for the remainder of the year. As soon as that decision is finalized we will update the membership. Along this line, President brought forward a concern from one of our members regarding what will be done with the membership dues already paid for 2020? The Board decided that currently no refunds would be made in 2020 as the COVID-19 Pandemic and the state-mandated restrictions are beyond the CVDA control. With that being said, once a final decision is made about the remainder of the year the CVDA Board will meet again to discuss possible options/considerations as what can be done for our members with respect to 2021 CVDA Membership and Sponsor Fees.
Membership Meeting, Nominations for the New CVDA 2021 Board of Directors and Voting for the 2021 Board of Directors Nominees in December 2020? The Pandemic has challenged All of us and the CVDA is not exempt. State mandatory restrictions have made it difficult to follow our processes outlined in the By-Laws exactly to the letter of the law. As there are no provisions for a Pandemic in our By-Laws, a revision is definitely needed to include provisions to deal with Pandemics/Natural disasters etc. CVDA President has reached out to our Parlimentarium to see how we can be creative to either have virtual meetings and to handle the nomination and voting process. If not the Board of Directors discussed the current Board would remain in place until a special meeting for nominations/elections could take place. More to follow.
There was talk about cancelling the Tournament of Champions slated for Jan 21. More discussions are required before this decision can be finalized. With one key Board member not in attendance on the conference call, the President added this topic as an Agenda item for the next Board meeting. We hope to have a final decision for our members before 1 Nov.
42nd Annual CVDA Dart Classic- The Board is hopeful the easement of the sanctions and the pandemic will be under control and have set a “Save the Date” of 11-13 June 2021 as the date for our Dart Classic Tournament.
Following the conference call. CVDA President reached out to the state of Virginia asking the following questions: 1. Is there an update under Phase III when the restriction of playing darts may be lifted and 2. WIll there be a Phase IV, and if so, an approx time frame? He received a response from The Commerce and Trade Secretary stating: “We have no information as to the duration of Phase Three and have not been given any indication of the next phase.” To that end as previously stated: 1. All League and CVDA activities continue to be suspended until further notice. 2. No sanction CVDA blind draws are authorized.
To the extent you can, we encourage your continued safe support & patronage of our Sponsor Bars.
Any questions/comments please reach out to any board member.
We appreciate your patience, understanding and recognized this is not how any of us expected our 2020 Dart League season to progress.
Good Afternoon All CVDA Members, Sponsors, and Tournament Directors. Just wanted to give a quick note. The CVDA President has confirmed with the Virginia state government that Darts and Pool game areas are to remain closed during Phase III COVID-19 Pandemic in the Commonwealth.
The CVDA Board of Directors will be meeting next week to further discuss the way forward with our League operation.
As mentioned previously, 1. All League and CVDA activities continue to be suspended until further notice. 2. No sanction CVDA blind draws are authorized.
To the extent you can, we encourage your continued safe support & patronage of our Sponsor Bars.
Any questions/comments please reach out to any board member.
