Hello CVDA Members, Happy New Year! 2020 was quite a year which I don’t think anyone could have imagined. It was a very challenging year impacting all aspect of our lives globally. The CVDA was not spared and due to statewide mandates we had to suspend all league activities which halted the Winter 2020 league before the start of the 10th Week, cancellation of our 2020 42nd Annual Dart Classic, the Summer and Fall 2020 league seasons. The Board of Directors met a couple of weeks ago and here is an update. If You have any constructive feedback, suggestions or comments please send to bod@cvdadarts.com. This is the official way to reach and how we will respond to your inquiries. We will not be responding to any facebook comments.
1. Due to the current Governor Executive Order and restrictions, the fluctuating COVID-19 protocols, and new variant strand of the virus, We are unable to start the 2021 season. As soon as we have clear guidance from the Governor we will update the membership.
2. All sanctioned Blind Draws and League activities remain closed.
3. Due to uncertainty of statewide restrictions and the inability to fund raise, the Annual 42nd Dart Classic in June 2021 is cancelled. The Board has not completely taken it off the table and should restrictions be lifted we might explore moving the Dart Classic to possibly a later month in the year.
4. The decision was made to freeze and roll the following items into 2021
a. 2020 CVDA Points List
b. The few months of sanctioning dollars- Once the books are closed out for 2020, the President will have the Treasurer send out a report to the membership.
c. Possibility of finishing out week 10 of the 2020 Winter season. (Subject to change once things open back up)
5. Due to the challenges of 2020 the board has rolled over all paid membership from 2020 into 2021 membership.
The CVDA Board of Directors has reviewed the by-laws and verified that the $45 paid to the CVDA annual is for membership dues. The membership dues allow a member to play on a league team, vote at CVDA elections, as well as participate in some CVDA member only functions. These dues are paid on an annual basis each January. As a courtesy, if someone would like to join later in the calendar year the dues are prorated for the remainder of the year ($30 or $15 depending on which league season is being played). The membership dues are non-refundable. If you join in January and only played one season, the remainder of your dues are not refunded to you though you are still considered a member with member benefits.
The Board of Directors has approved extending member’s 2020 memberships into 2021. This extension was not required but put in place as a show of good faith to our members. Anyone having already paid their 2020 membership dues for the entire year ($45), will be allowed to participate in all CVDA functions for all of 2021 once able to resume normal organizational activities.
There have been several questions from the membership about refunds. Refunds are not a viable option for the league. As an example, you paid your membership dues to another organization for 2020. Due to the pandemic the organization did not have any functions or events for you to participate in or were closed partially during the year. Your dues to that organization are not being refunded. The same principal applies in this situation. As another example, a Busch Gardens membership, the theme park continued to collect payments on the memberships during the time the park was closed. The park notified membership owners that their payments would be deferred for the time the park was closed once the park re-opens. Essentially, this is the same thing CVDA is doing, extending your membership for the time the league was shut down.
The CVDA Board of Directors is making the best decisions for the entire league, this includes its members, member’s families and league sponsors. The league’s safety and health are the utmost priority. The CVDA Board of Directors will continue to comply with the guidelines set forth by the state of Virginia.
As soon as sanctioned darts are allowed, the Board of Directors will review the calendar and determine the best course of action to complete.
If you have any questions, please contact the Board of Directors via email at: bod@cvdadarts.com. Formal complaint must be in writing and mailed to the P.O. Box for proper adjudication.
6. All is not lost for those that want to throw darts. If anyone has interest in playing virtual dart league or tournaments, I.E. Singles leagues or tournament via Dart Connect. Please email your thoughts or interest and suggestions to bod@cvdadarts.com.
Thank you for your time, understanding and patience during this difficult time. The Board of Directors wishes you and your families all the best.
